I was in Paris for two days of meetings. The morning after my flight landed I had an afternoon to go for a walk. From my hotel near the Tour Eiffel, I cross the Seine River at the Pont d’Iéna bridge, walked the river up to the Pont de l’Alma bridge, where I turned left and headed North along Avenue George up to the Arc de Triomphe.
From there, I walked South East along the Champs-Élysées, passed the Place de la Concorde to the Napoleon Courtyard of the Musée du Louvre. I stopped for a drink, then hopped on the Metro (La ligne 1) at the Louvre – Rivoli station for a couple of stops and got off at the Bastille station. The station is a few blocks away from the Place des Vosges, a favorite spot from a visit in 2010.
That was the end of my walk. From here, I backtracked to the Bastille station and took the Metro back to my hotel. (L1: Bastille to Charles de Gaulle – Étoile, switch to La Linge 6 and get off at Bir-Hakeim station, near Tour Eiffel).
Along the way I saw the following sites of note: Place de Varsovie, Flamme de la Liberté (official memorial for Diana, Princess of Wales), Publicis Drugstore, Champs-Élysées, Le Grand Palais, Hôtel de Crillon, Jeanne d’Arc golden statue on Rue de Rivoli, Colonne Vendôme, Colonne de Juillet, Louis XIII equestrian statue, Place des Vosges, Eglise Réformée du Marais, etc.
